History

Christy/Cobb was founded in 1981, and the early focus of the firm was structural engineering.  Projects were mainly large retail structures, renovations and residential consulting.  As the firm grew, it gradually developed a wide range of experience by accepting increasingly complex assignments.  Building on its structural work for architectural clients, the firm developed a broader practice in municipal, industrial and heavy construction projects.  Throughout its history, Christy/Cobb has demonstrated the ability to successfully complete a variety of projects from purely structural to complete municipal or industrial facilities and from small residential consultation to full service design.

In 1984 the firm began working as a consultant to Kenneth D. Byrd, Inc. on the Mulberry Water Supply for the Industrial Water Board of the City of Birmingham. As a result of this relationship, Christy/Cobb became the Industrial Water Board's consulting engineer in 1989. In this capacity the firm was able to successfully complete several projects and studies covering a wide range of water supply issues and to gain experience in working with a public utility client.

Throughout its history, Christy/Cobb has demonstrated the capability to successfully complete a variety of projects from purely structural to complete municipal or industrial facilities and from small residential consultation to full service design.
