CAREER
SUMMARY: Lowell attended the University of Alabama and
obtained her first engineering job in 1970 as a summer employee of
Rust International. The following year, she began working for
Hudson & Associates, a small consulting structural engineering
firm, and continued to take classes at the University of Alabama
at Birmingham. She worked for that firm and as a consultant to
other structural engineering firms until 1981. During that period,
she designed parking garages, malls, medical, educational and
commercial buildings, and industrial facilities. Lowell was a
founding principal of Christy/Cobb, Inc.. The firm initially
focused on residential and commercial projects serving
architectural clients. Over the years, Lowell has developed her
management skills functioning as the prime design professional on
many projects. While structural design of architectural projects
remains a strong interest, her technical skills have expanded to
include industrial facilities, municipal and special structures,
renovation and historic preservation. Her clients now include
owners, state and local governmental agencies, engineers and
contractors as well as architects.
